All members of the SLS are also represented by the Law Students’ Society of Ontario, and most belong to the University of Toronto Students’ Union as well with a dedicated Law Director representing JD students.

University of Toronto Students’ Union

The University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU) is the undergraduate student union at the University of Toronto. JD students are members of both the UTSU and the SLS, though the two bodies are distinct—it’s like having dual citizenship!

The SLS Chief Returning Officer runs the election for the UTSU Director for the Faculty of Law, and the Law Director sits ex officio as a non-voting member of the Student Life and Academic Committee. The UTSU provides advocacy for all undergraduate students, including those in the JD program. Students in combined degree programs may instead be represented by the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union. Law Students’ Society of Ontario

The Law Students’ Society of Ontario represents law students from across the province, for the purpose of advocating on their behalf, and building relationships with the member organizations that govern their professional interests, the universities administering their legal education, and government bodies. The SLS President and Vice-President Academic are your UofT Law representatives on the LSSO Council, along with student government leadership from each of the respective law schools in Ontario.
